Notes to applicants

  1. The information requested is required to process an application for a Specialist Vehicle Permit under the Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimensions and Mass 2016. Please refer to Factsheet 13h for additional information about specialist vehicles, or contact your specialist heavy vehicle certifier. Note that permits can be cancelled under section 5.7 of the rule, as detailed in Factsheet 13h.

  3. It is the Transport Service Licence holder identified in the windscreen of the vehicle who has the responsibility to operate within the regulatory requirements relating to SRT, Brake Code and other applicable vehicle ratings, as well as any other rules such as speed, RUC or log book hours.
  4. You may apply for multiple identical vehicles on a single application form. Please attach a list of the vehicle registration numbers you wish to include in this application.
  5. You may be eligible for an extended permit term if you are operating under a contract with a local authority.

Attach any necessary supporting documents to this application (up to 8 documents):

  • A clear photograph of the vehicle’s compliance plate showing the load share percentage ratio (60/40 or 55/45) if the vehicle has a tandem axle set with a twin-tyred axle and a single large-tyred axle
  • Weight certificate (optional)
  • Confirmation of contract details (if this permit is related to a local authority service contract).

Existing Attachments

It is the permit holder’s responsibility to comply with all relevant regulatory requirements including SRT, brake code, GVM, RUC, as well as any other conditions detailed in the permit or legislation. The NZ Transport Agency can revoke permits under section 5.7 of the Vehicle Dimensions and Mass Rule 2016 (Rule 41001).
